YuGiOh - Japanese Premium Packs

Updated on July 23, 2011

YuGiOh! The Japanese Premium Packs

Welcome to our information pages on the Japanese YuGiOh! Premium Packs. On this page you'll find card listings for all twelve Premium Packs issued in Japan, and as much information as we've been able to dredge up on them. There's also featured cards and loads more besides. Enjoy! While you're here, make sure to vote for your favourite card from the Premium Packs and say 'hello' on our guestbook too.

One thing you'll notice is that some of the information on the early Premium Packs is a bit sketchy - it simply hasn't ever been translated from the Japanese. If you can help with any missing details on the Premium Packs, then please get in touch.

Premium Packs 1, 2 & 2: Dark Ceremony

Premium Pack 1 was released at the Tokyo Dome Duel Monsters tournament on 26th August 1999. In common with all early boosters, there was no Eye of Anubis or set numbers and the layout was different to the one we know today. Here's the list:

Time Wizard

Frog the Jam

Mikazukinoyaiba

Cosmo Queen

Dharma Cannon

Dancing Elf

Turu-Purun

Meteor Dragon

Goddess of Whim

Exodia the Forbidden One

Premium Pack 2 was released on 18th December 2000, again with the original card formats. Four lots of Ritual Monsters and their associated ritual spell cards. We're not sure how these were packaged. If anyone knows, please give us a shout. Here's the list:

Black Luster Soldier

Black Luster Ritual

Fiend's Mirror

Beastly Mirror Ritual

Super War-Lion

War-Lion Ritual

Zera the Mant

Zera Ritual

and then there's Premium Pack 2: Dark Ceremony. We know even less about this one. As you can see, it's all the cards from PP2, plus some more. We don't know how/when/where these cards were released. If anyone can help with information, please get in touch. Here's the list

Black Luster Soldier

Black Luster Ritual

Fiend's Mirror

Super War-Lion

War-Lion Ritual

Zera the Mant

Zera Ritual

Javelin Beetle

Featured Card 1 - Fiend's Mirror

Fiend's Mirror
Fiend's Mirror

Fiend's Mirror, and its associated Ritual Spell Card - Beastly Mirror Ritual are the only cards from the early, old-format Premium Packs that have never appeared in English. The text reads (no surprises): This monster can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card "Beastly Mirror Ritual".

1st Intermission: Watch a Video

It's a long old slog through the history of Premium Packs, so we'll be giving you regular breaks from all the text :) Here's a few Black Luster Soldier moments to relax you ready for the next stint...

Premium Packs 3 & 4

Released in Japan, just after the iconic Pharaoh's Servant booster, Premium Pack 3 arrived on August 10th 2000. There were ten cards in this release, all available in both Super Rare and Normal Parallel Rare format. This was the first Premium Pack containing cards in the modern format. Oh, and there's the small matter of B-EUD! Here's the list:

P3-01 Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon

P3-02 Meteor B. Dragon

P3-03 Firewing Pegasus

P3-04 Tri-Horned Dragon

P3-05 Sengenjin

P3-06 Serpent Night Dragon

P3-07 Magician of Black Chaos

P3-08 Gate Guardian

P3-09 Meteor Dragon

P3-10 Black Magic Ritual

Premium Pack 4 contained six ultra-rares (we believe this was the first time you got all the available cards in one pack), It was released on 18th January 2001 and included fan favourites Dark Magician and Dark Magician's Girl.

P4-01 Dark Magician Girl

P4-02 Dark Magician

P4-03 Thousand Knives

P4-04 Dark Magic Curtain

P4-05 Mystic Box

P4-06 Magic Cylinder

What else? Normally I give the card text in the featured card segments of these pages. If you need me to do that here, then I'm not sure why you're reading this page ;)

2nd Intermission: Buy Yourself a B-EUD

For our second break, grab a piece of YuGiOh! history. Or just go and have a look. Gorgeous. Then click 'back' and head on to Premium Pack 5.

Premium Packs 5 & 6

Premium Pack 5 saw the light of day on the 22nd December 2001, with each pack containing six Ultra Rares or Parallel Rares from a set of 9. For a long time, 'Kunai with Chain' had never been released in English, but finally got its TCG debut in Duelist Genesis. Here's the full list:

P5-01 Red-Eyes B. Dragon

P5-02 Harpie's Feather Duster

P5-03 Crush Card Virus

P5-04 Kunai with Chain

P5-05 Acid Trap Hole

P5-06 Metalmorph

P5-07 Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon

P5-08 Widespread Ruin

P5-09 Millennium Shield

There was then a gap of almost two years to the next Premium Pack (we don't know the reason - if anyone does, please let us know). Like PP4 (above), each Premium Pack 6 contained the same six cards (although 1 in 10 packs had one of the ultra-rares replaced with a secret rare version). It was released in November 2003.

PP6-001 Marshmallon

PP6-002 Marshmallon Glasses

PP6-003 Shield Crush

PP6-004 Gemini Imps

PP6-005 Return Zombie

PP6-006 Legacy of Yata-Garasu

Featured Card 3 - Kunai with Chain

A latecomer to the TCG, here's the text: Choose 1 or both of these effects:

Activate only when an opponent's monster attacks. Change the attacking monster to Defense Position.

Equip this card to a monster you control. It gains 500 ATK.

3rd Intermission: Hold on a minute, we sell those...

In case you didn't know, this guide is brought to you by BSTS, an toy and hobby store based in the United Kingdom. We've actually got some Premium Pack 6 in stock - we're one of only a few stores in the Western hemisphere that does. If you live in the United Kingdom and want to grab a pack or two, visit our Japanese Cards page.

Phew. We're half way through now. Deep breath, onto the second half...

Premium Pack 7
Premium Pack 7

Premium Packs 7, 8 & 9

On the 5th August 2004, Premium Pack 7 appeared. Three Ultra-Rares and five common cards, all in each pack:

PP7-JP001 Theinen the Great Sphinx

PP7-JP002 Andro Sphinx

PP7-JP003 Sphinx Teleia

PP7-JP004 Rare Metal Dragon

PP7-JP005 Peten the Dark Clown

PP7-JP006 Familiar Knight

PP7-JP007 Inferno Tempest

PP7-JP008 Return from the Different Dimension

Then on 18th December 2004, Japanese YuGiOh! fans got another 5 Secret Rares in Premium Pack 8. Into the E-Hero era now:

PP8-JP001 Elemental Hero Avian

PP8-JP002 Elemental Hero Burstinatrix

PP8-JP003 Elemental Hero Flame Wingman

PP8-JP004 Blood Sucker

PP8-JP005 Evil Eye of Coercion

But then this pattern of each pack containing the full set couldn't continue, could it? Things have to be a bit more complicated than that when we're talking Japanese YuGiOh! releases. Each pack of Premium Pack 9 (released 16th March 2006) contained 5 random secret rares from a list of 10:

PP9-JP001 Elemental Hero Electrum

PP9-JP002 The Flute of Summoning Kuriboh

PP9-JP008 Lancer Dragonute

PP9-JP009 Axe Dragonute

PP9-JP010 Mist Body

Featured Card 4 - Axe Dragonute

One of a few from this era of Premium Packs not yet released in English. Text is: If this card attacks, it is switched to Defense Position at the end of the Damage Step.

Premium Pack 12
Premium Pack 12

Premium Packs 10, 11 & 12

The 8th March 2007 saw the arrival of Premium Pack 10. Again it was 5 random Secret Rare cards per pack from an E-Hero packed set of 10:

PP10-JP003 Elemental Hero Poison Rose

And at the other end of the year (22nd December 2007), Premium Pack 11 popped out. Eight cards (we believe but can't confirm all eight cards were in every pack) including a couple of Roids never released in English:

When it is removed from play by this effect, Special Summon it during your next Standby Phase. When it is Special Summoned by this effect, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.
